Stunning Vintage Rose Of Sharon Applique Quilt Hand Made Hand Quilted 80 x 82

  

Here's a stunning 1940's era Rose Of Sharon quilt machine and hand pieced and hand quilted at approx 7 stitches per inch. It measures 80" x 82" and fits beautifully on a double bed with nice drop on the sides and would cover a queen with less side drop. This is made with 100% cotton fabrics and cotton batting with beautiful close quilting.

It does not appear that this has ever been used as a cover, but is buttery soft, so I suspect it has been washed at least once. There is no wear to any of the fabric, no tears, no holes and no loose seams, this quilt is very sturdy. The maker was obviously a skilled quilter and embroiderer, look at the embroidery around all of the applique.

The flowers are appliqued in a stacked pattern and then embellished with wonderful little knots to form the centers of the flowers adding great detail. The edge embroidery on the applique is exceptional! The floral appliqued blocks are alternated with solid white blocks that are quilted in the same form as the appliqued blocks and these blocks are surrounded by a pink sashing, finishing with a white border that is quilted in more floral patterns. The quilt is finished with sandwiched edges and hand stitched together. The only issue this quilt has are some storage stains.

On two corners there are rust colored stains (see photos) and throughout there are some lighter stains on front and back. I do believe these would either remove completely or become much lighter with a long soak and maybe some fabric treatment on the darker ones. I have not soaked or washed this quilt.
