Extraordinary Victorian Crazy Quilt, complete with numerous embroidered vignettes check out the cat in the corner! And a wonderful assortment of antique textiles.
Dated 1899 on the lower corner of the piece. The quilter or the recipients name is also embroidered, appears to be Carrie L Miller. I found two gravestones, both in Pennsylvania for Carrie (Carolyn) Miller - both born in the mid to late 1800's and both passed in the first part of the 20th century. Overall stitching is intact and in good condition. About 90% of the textiles are intact and showing age but overall stable.
5% of the silks are shredding, 5% are shattered mainly due to age. Reverse and some minor staining, but is good to very good.Thankfully the quilter used a red cotton so it's very stable. Dimensions are 75" by 76". If you would like additional images or have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
