Vintage Style Queen Size Quilt, Block and Star Pattern. I finished this quilt in 2007, and it has been gently used, with no defects, other than gentle softening of the colors. It's machine pieced and all hand quilted, with a pieced hanging sleeve of 4 squares, and a label made from a Battenburg lace doily. It was shown at our local quilt show, and the county fair.I gave it to my daughter, but neither of us has a queen sized bed now; in the photos it's almost floor length on my full sized bed. It has a thick Warm & Natural batting, and a double bias binding in a green print that should wear well.
I was inspired by the soft floral vintage style prints in the fourth photo, and added scraps from my huge collection of vintage and 1800's reproduction fabrics. This simple pattern was found in early quilts, and the triangles and squares can form stars that you may not see at first. It would make a good wall hanging because your eyes run over the blocks, finding the hidden stars.Three of the borders are a simple line of squares set on point, but for the last border I chose a fancy variation of the Flying Geese pattern. My purpose was to create a new look by turning the quilt around, since it's close to being square, and setting the special border over the pillows, on the side, or at the foot, according to whim.
This quilt was right at home in my Gold Rush Victorian house, and though it's only 14 years old, it will add an antique look to your home, too, while having strong materials that can take years of use. I include washing instructions with all my quilts, so you can enjoy the colors for many years to come.
